The Leon County Republican Executive Committee will be meeting on Thursday, March 10th at the Tallahassee Center 2nd Floor Conference Room, located at 215 West College Avenue in Tallahassee. The social time begins at 5:30 and our meeting begins at 6:00.
The Tallahassee Republican Women’s Club Federated will be meeting on Monday, March 14th at A La Provence, located at 1415 Timberlane Road in Tallahassee. The meeting will begin at 11:30.
The Capital Young Republicans will be meeting on Monday, March 21st at Versailles Lounge, located at 215 West College Avenue in Tallahassee. The meeting will begin at 6:30.
The Northeast Republican Club will be meeting on Tuesday, March 22nd at Old Town Cafe in Tallahassee. The meeting will begin at 6:00.

I’d like to invite you to attend the Leon County GOP’s first big fundraiser of the year on March 31st, from 5:30-7:30. The Seersucker Soirée, featuring Congressman Daniel Webster, is a good old fashioned barbecue dinner in the historic Old Capitol Senate Chamber. Congressman Webster will speak about his service in the Florida legislature, what to expect out of Washington in the coming year, and more.
Before his election to Congress, Congressman Webster served 28 years in the Florida legislature and was the first Republican Speaker of the Florida House of Representatives in over 120 years. In Congress, he serves on the influential Rules Committee as well as the Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, and was a candidate in the 2015 leadership race.

Last week, I had the opportunity to be interviewed on WFSU FM 88.9’s radio program “Perspectives” about the recent local elections in Tallahassee and Leon County. Lynn Hatter was the Host and we were joined by local Democrat activist Brian Lupiani.
Notice how most of those who called in with questions aimed their questions at yours truly….always fun being a Republican in Democratic Leon County!
Apparently some lady called in named “Monica”—whose real name was not Monica, and took me to task for using the term “Career Politician” which she considered to be an honorable title. I told her it’s purely subjective if a longtime politician is a good leader you call them “a public servant” if they’re crass political climbers you call them “career politicians.” I felt the best politicians were those who come from the working class private sector and have some understanding for the burdens that bad laws put on the rest of us.
Later, I learned off the air from the Democrat guest on the show that “Monica” was really some woman on the Leon County Democratic Executive Committee calling in to be disagreeable with me. It’s all good!– She had her 15 seconds of fame!
Proud to be a Republican….Proud to be a Seminole! Before the festivities kick off tonight the Republican Party of Florida Board meeting was held at 12noon. As Treasurer it was necessary to attend. I wore my FSU College Republicans hat…you know I’m a former Chairman of FSU CRs? (circa 1983). The Party’s finances are in great shape and we are well positioned for November! Now let’s nominate a Presidential Candidate!!!

Ten days ago the Republican voters in Leon County went to the polls and voted to re-elect me to another 4-year term as their representative on the Republican State Executive Committee. In the frenzy of celebration over this victory I posted on my personal and political Facebook pages a note of thanks to voters for re-electing me as Leon County Republican State Committeeman. Yesterday, my Mom pointed out to me that I did not thank the voters on my blog site at www.GOPJeff.com . This was an oversight on my part. When I posted a thank you on both Facebook pages I simply forgot to thank supporters on GOPJeff.com. Gratitude is an important quality that is missing in today’s culture and especially among political leaders. THANK YOU to all Republicans in Leon County who voted for me whether by absentee ballot, early voting, or by going to the polls on August 14, 2012. It is a great honor to serve you and keep on working to keep the GOP on the right track.

Wow! What a difference 43 years makes. When I was 6 years old I was visiting my Grandparents in Miami. The year was 1968 and my Grandfather, a Democrat, was watching the Republican National Convention which was held in Miami Beach. I walked past the TV and asked who where those people parading around on the TV and he said “Those are the Republicans and they are having a convention.” Next I saw these huge black and white placards bearing the faces of Richard Nixon and later Nelson Rockefeller. The next placard to come over the TV screen was this guy with slick black hair and a great smile and I asked “Who’s that?” My Grandfather replied “It doesn’t matter, he’s not going to win.”—No that guy did not win, but did win 12 years later and I got to cast my first vote as an adult when we was up for re-election in 1984– RONALD REAGAN!
Next week I will be honored to serve as one of only three delegates from Leon County. The other two being Governor Rick Scott and his wife Ann. As a grassroots Republican Conservative, I am humbled to finally make it to the SuperBowl of GOP politics. Now let me just pray for the Hurricane to stay away from the Great State of Florida!

Many fellow Tallahassee/Leon County Republicans have asked me about what they can do to get on the list and be a volunteer in Tampa at the Republican National Convention this August.
The 2012 Tampa Bay Host Committee will recruit, train, and manage thousands of volunteers to work the 2012 Republican National Convention. Volunteers will welcome guests at the airports and hotels throughout the area, as well as support Host Committee programs and a variety of events leading up to the convention.
Individuals interested in becoming volunteers can register online now at www.2012tampa.com/get-involved. Anyone interested in becoming a volunteer has to sign up through their website.

The Tallahassee Democrat has an article today showing Democrat Party’s Chairman Rod Smith attempting to hype the crowd in the Tallahassee area.
What Rod Smith is in actuality saying is that the Democrats have no ideas with which to persuade the electorate so they will take the campaign into the gutter to demonize Republicans.
It won’t work.
Republican leaders scoffed at Smith’s partisan predictions. Leon County State Committeewoman Cynthia Henderson said the mayoral elections were swayed by local issues and politics in Tampa and Jacksonville and GOP Committeeman Jeff Howell called Smith’s prediction “absurd.”
“I don’t think the governor’s popularity now is going to have an impact on what’s going on at the time of the election,” said Henderson.
Howell said “Rod Smith is doing his job” in firing up his supporters. But he said Scott’s image will not help Obama and Nelson or hurt the GOP nominees.
“Obama won Florida by only 2 percent four years ago,” he said. “Floridians are concerned about the economy, unemployment and the ballooning federal deficit, and they don’t hold Rick Scott responsible for that.”
Leon County GOP Chairman Bradley Maxwell said Smith was trying to divert attention from Obama’s record by appealing to anger at Scott. He said the Democrats can’t win by saying “Obama might be bad, but look at this other guy.”
Presidency 5 is the straw poll/mini-convention sponsored by the Republican Party of Florida. This Presidential election cycle delegates will be selected from each of Florida’s 67 counties. A total of approximately 4, 000 delegates is expected. On the first night there will be a debate aired live by FOX News. The culmination of the event will be speeches and a straw poll of the delegates.
The first Presidency debate was in 1978 and was won by Ronald Reagan.
Very soon, RPOF will provide local parties with the specifics on the delegate selection process. The event will be held Thursday, September 22, 2011 through September 24th in Orlando.
