The election is fast approaching. Early voting begins on Saturday, August 4th. Election day is Tuesday, August 14th. Here our the words of people I’ve been privileged to work with Leon County and throughout Florida.

As chairman of our RPOF Ethics Committee, Jeff brought about positive change to the State Party. He has done an outstanding job with everything he has pursued at RPOF, most recently as Treasurer of RPOF. “What you see is what you get” with Jeff. Florida Republicans are in excellent hands with Jeff as a part of our fantastic leadership team!

Jeff recruited me to the Leon County Republican Executive Committee shortly after I met him three years ago. His enthusiasm and vision inspired me to become active, and he immediately drafted me for work that required my skill set. In November Florida’s senior senator, Democrat Bill Nelson, will be seeking his third term in Washington. During his current term, Nelson has rejected the Keystone Pipeline and religious exemptions for the recent birth control insurance mandates. Nelson has supported the continuation of ethanol subsidies, the stimulus plan, and Obamacare. In another example of how Nelson is not serving Floridians, but liberal special interests, he openly opposed efforts to verify Florida’s voter roll and remove ineligible non-citizen from the roll. Nelson has consistently voted to undermine economic prosperity and constitutional liberty. Florida needs to send another solid conservative to Washington to join Marco Rubio in the work of restoring order and liberty.

If you are a business owner, you may have thought that your hard work, discipline, creativity, drive, and skill built that business. According to President Obama, you, your hard work, your intelligence – none of those things are ultimately responsible for the existence of your business. Someone helped you or you lucked out, but you can’t claim credit for what you have.

Paul Ryan nailed it when he said of this unguarded Obama moment that “[e]very now and then, President Obama pierces the veil. He’s usually pretty coy about his ideology, but he lets the veil slip from time to time.” The President does not believe in the individual or celebrating success or the efficacy of entrepreneurialism. He believes in the collective and government as the arbiter of who gets what.

We do indeed have a transformational president. A president, who when he speaks “off-teleprompter”, expresses beliefs that are antithetical to the American Dream. A president deeply offended by the American character. We have a president who wishes to transform our nation from one where government is beholden to the people into on where the people are beholden to government.

I am proud to accept the endorsement of Jan Pietrzyk, former Leon County Supervisor of Elections. When I was a senior at FSU majoring in political science back in 1984, I helped put together a ragtag group of college kids and we campaigned hard for Jan Pietrzyk. The night of Nov. 6, 1984 when Ronald Reagan won re-election by a landslide, and Jan Pietrzyk was elected Supervisor of Elections, becoming the first countywide elected Republican constitutional officer in Leon County since Reconstruction. We made history!

I have known Jeff Howell for nearly 30 years. In 1984, Jeff provided invaluable direction to my campaign when I was elected Supervisor of Elections for Leon County. Jeff was a force in helping to elect me the first countywide- elected Republican constitutional officer since Reconstruction. Few can match Jeff’s focus on conservative principles and strong work ethic. He has been a consistent advocate for conservatism in Leon County.

What is the significance of July 16th? It is the deadline to register to vote in the August 14th election. If you are new to Leon County, if you are not registered to vote, if you plan to change your party affiliation, you will want to do this by July 16th. Why should you vote on August 14th when the presidential election isn’t until November? On August 14th, you will have to opportunity to vote in the Republican Senate primary, local races, and, of course, for Leon County Republican State Committeeman. Make sure you are eligible to exercise your right to vote and visit the Leon County Supervisor of Elections Office and register to vote.

For those who are already registered to vote, request a “Vote by Mail” or absentee ballot here. Voting by mail ensures that regardless of what happens on Election Day you will be able to cast your vote. If you prefer voting at the polls, consider a “Vote by Mail” ballot voter’s insurance in the event that something unforeseen keeps you from the polls. The Leon County Republican Party Executive Committee recommends that every Republican request a “Vote by Mail” ballot.
